Cupcakes Under the Influence

I was doing my daily browsing when I came across this wonderful recipe on Pinterest and since St Patricks’s day is just around the corner I thought it would only be appropriate if I shared it. I believe cupcakes are a girl’s best friend and well it doesn’t hurt if the cupcakes have a little something extra (i.e. Whiskey, Guinness Stout and Bailey’s Irish Cream).

Tell me they don’t look good!!! I am excited to give this recipe a try this weekend :) As always I like to give credit where credit is due, so if you want the recipe click through the image.

I Yelped That: The Wormhole Coffee

Before I get to the Wormhole let me start by saying that if you know me you know that I am obsessed with Starbucks, however I think this obsession is coming to an end (hopefully). You can skip this entire paragraph and simply jump to the second one if you don’t care to know why I am giving up on Starbucks.  Recently Starbucks changed their reward program and I am not too happy with the changes, sure now you get a reward when you reach 12 stars rather than 15 and now you can have a drink, breakfast sandwich or a pastry of your choice when you reach 12 stars but I don’t care because now they are making me pay for SOY milk! I am freaking lactose intolerant and to be completely honest with you I feel discriminated against, why is soy milk not a standard option, why do I have to pay extra for it? I didn’t ask to be born with the inability to digest lactose, is it wrong of me to feel this way? okay maybe to you I am overreacting just a tiny bit but come on!

Okay now that that’s off my chest (I’m sorry for sounding a little hostile and angry) I am looking for a new coffee shop and I think I might have found it, the only bad part is the location, it’s not close enough to work or my house, so I might stop here occasionally. Any who let me introduce you to: The Wormhole Coffee located in wicker park (Chicago)

yup that’s Lorraine, their decor is AMAZING!!! The staff is nice :)

They call it: the Harrison Gourd which consist of espresso, sweet potato whipped cream topped with lemon zest

The search for a coffee shop near my job and home continues… If you live in chicago and know of any amazing coffee shops please share, I love checking out new spots :)

Greek Town With a Greek Friend

I love Greek food and I love going to Greek town, although it’s only a few blocks long its pack with wonderful cafes and restaurants overlooking the Willis Sears Tower.

My favorite dessert place is in Greek Town and its called Artopolis

I love going there it makes me feel like I am not in Chicago

They have yummy food, like this Inferno Pizza made with Roasted chicken, Smoked Gouda, Mozzarella, green and florina peppers, caramelized onions, spicy tomato sauce.

or this Tequila Pollo made with Wood-roasted chicken breast, Roma tomato, arugula, avocado, tequila lime mayonnaise, on Sour Dough Boulé.

But my favorite thing at Artopolis are Loukoumades

Classic Greek honey puffs, cinnamon, nuts & sesame seeds, yums! These things are so good by the time I remembered to snap a picture half of them were gone. I also had an Iced Frappé (no milk) with ice cream sweeten and it was amazing, so good I totally forgot to take a picture of it, next time.

Next Stop: Athena they have a great menu and a beautiful patio, we plan to visit soon!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Would You Like A Taste?

The Taste of Chicago starts today and it goes till the 15th.

For those of you who are not from Chicago and/or have never been to the taste let me try to explain what it consists of:

  • Food, different kinds from different restaurants around the city. I usually go for a pickle on a stick, cheesecake on a stick, pizza and I’ll  try a few things here and there but I don’t leave without having my pickle on a stick.
  • People, LOTS of them. If you are a fast walker and hate walking behind slow walkers, just don’t bother coming, not everyone is a multitasker and can walk and eat at the same time and if you are trying to eat a turkey leg (refer to second picture) you might want to sit down to finish that bad boy without dropping it.

  • HOT weather. I am so glad they change the dates of the taste this year, it usually falls the week of the 4th thank God this year that was not the case, last week Chicago was a hell hole (to see proof scroll to the bottom) this week the temperature is tolerable.

  • Fireworks, if you go on a Wednesday and Saturday you will be able to see the Navy Pier Firework show, any other day you’ll just get food, lots of people and hot weather.

Now I am one of those crazy people that loves going to the taste, although I hate walking behind slow people and I don’t like being hot and sticky but I seem to forget all about it as soon as I get to the Taste. I don’t know what it is maybe the thought of having a pickle of a stick?

If you ever find yourself in Chicago during the Taste, please please please go! It’s an experience I think everyone should have, some will love it others will hate it but you have to go and experience it for yourself.

Why yes I am proud to be an AMERICAN!

Happy Birthday to my beautiful United States of America!!!!

usa usa

As we have established I was not born in this magnificent country (read here) but I have been an American citizen longer than I was any other type of citizen which is why I love celebrating Independence Day!!! This  has to be one of my favorite holidays truth be told I like them all this one is extra special, there’s so much to do and the weather is usually perfect to do it. This year Chicago decided to pretend it’s HELL, we are expecting 100+ degree weather, YEY if you want to be a prune by the end of the day. I am not looking forward to the heat, as much as I love summer I cannot stand humidity.

On a brighter note here are some of the reasons why I love celebrating INDEPENDENCE DAY!

  • I get to celebrate the freedom I have to do anything and be anything I want :D
  • It’s in the summer
  • Fireworks!!! <— this one is HUGE :D
  • Food
  • I get to spend time with friends and family
  • there’s a parade (I know there’s a thanksgiving parade and a Christmas parade but I have only been to the independence day parade)
  • Ice-cream

ADVICE to my fellow Chicagoans, DRINK lots of water, keep hydrated and out of the sun during peak hours which according to the FDA is between 10 am- 4pm, that sounds like the whole day to me I usually stay out of the sun between 12-2pm if I did 10am-4pm I would never do anything. It’s going to be between 105-115!!!

Stay Cool :D
