When it comes to finding recipes there are a few sites I go to (aside from Pinterest of course) one of them is Skinny Taste. The following recipes can be found on her site (or by click on the links below)

SkinnyTaste-SuperBowl Food

1- Buffalo Turkey Burger with Blue Cheese Broccoli Slaw  2- Sweet Potato Irish Nachos

Skinny Taste-Super Bowl Food23- Skinny Buffalo Chicken Strips 4- Salsa Verde Burgers

We decided to go with the second combo #3 & #4 and when it comes to sporting events beer is king and because we are sticking with the spicy food combo we will pair it with some India Pale, Amber Ale and Blonde Ale (if you need a beer guide to help you decide what you should buy go here).

And finally for dessert what is better than Nutella? NOTHING my friends, nothing will ever be better than Nutella, with that being said the 3 options all involved Nutella.

SuperBowl- Desserts (Nutella) copy1- Peanut Butter & Nutella Swirl Cookies 2- Nutella Pretzel Brownies 3- Nutella Brownies

We will be going with option #1 Peanut Butter & Nutella Swirl Cookies. My husband loves peanut butter and this option keeps both happy :)

Banana Cake with Coconut

Banana Cake with Coconut

This happened today! I came across this recipe last night on Pinterest (click on image above for the recipe) and I woke up this morning and made it. It is simple to make and the results were incredible, I made only a few changes to recipe I used all purpose flour, vegetable oil (ew! I am not a fan of vegetable oil but it was either that or olive oil and since it was only 1/4 cup I decided it would be okay). We didn’t have unsweetened apple sauce so we used regular apple sauce and because we are huge fans of coconuts at my house I added just a little more than 1/2 cup.

The results INCREDIBLE!

I am not a huge frosting/icing fan so we skipped it. The cake was sweet enough and the creamy honey frosting was not missed. Unfortunately like most of the things I cook, I didn’t take any pictures. I’m working on this guys. The lighting in our place is not the best so once we move and the kitchen has better lighting, I will try my best to take pictures before we devour whatever I cooked.

Hearty Soup

Lately the weather has been matching my mood (or is it the other way around?). It has been a lot cooler and gloomy in Chicago lately and when the weather gets like this  all I want to eat is soup. Here are some of my favorite soups and some new recipes I need to try (click on the image for the recipe):

That is why I am beyond excited to go to the Roscoe Village Burger Fest! The Fest is taking place today and tomorrow 11am -10pm, if you are in Chicago I suggest you take your happy little butt over there. Some of my favorite joints will be there, for a complete listing go here.

Eat responsibly,

Down Time

I love food.

I wish I could say I love all types of food but I would be lying. I have never had Ethiopian nor am I interested in trying it, I had homemade Indian once 8 years ago but never since. I’m learning to tolerate spicy foods, prior to being married I couldn’t resist black pepper in my food, now I cannot eat without it (I know black pepper is not really spicy but for me it was).

I am currently seeking a new job opportunity (a nicer way to say I’m currently unemployed and seeking) which means I have a lot of time on my hands. You would think I would be sleeping in and just taking it easy but that’s not how my body/brain works, I’m up nearly everyday at 5 am, with the exceptions of weekends thankfully my brain knows the difference between weekdays and weekends and it lets me sleep in till 8 or if really lucky 9 on the weekends.

So with all this free time I find myself doing 3 things, 1) working out sometimes 3 hrs a day, I feel like I live at the gym 2) applying for jobs which means tons of trips to starbucks to use their free wifi (thank the Lord for this!) and 3) pinning food recipes like it’s my job (well currently it is, except that I’m not getting paid, I guess we can call it an internship).

While pinning I have come across some really awesome food blogs, thank heavens for blogs but most importantly thank heavens for food blogs! Here are three:

I stumbled upon this one today and I’m loving what I see, I’m definitely making this Russian Horchata!

Skinny Taste is my absolute favorite place for health conscious recipes, this place also has lots of crock pot recipes :)

And finally the wonderful site where I found the recipe for my favorite type of Grilled Cheese ever, the Cuban Grilled Cheese!!!
